Day of prayer

A Day of reflection and Prayer at Fairhaven Methodist Church.

9th November 2024

10am – 3pm

Service of Remembering, Healing and Wholeness at 3pm

It is that time of year where we really see autumn turn to winter and the nights draw in. The shops change from selling autumnal products to Christmas products and the Church turns towards advent. The Celtic celebration of All Hallows Eve has been commercialised in recent years and has become dominated by Halloween. The Celtic tradition celebrates the eve of All Hallows (Hallowed means Holy) as the feast before All Saint’s day where the church remembers the people in its history that have done good in the world, we might keep this going by making the 31st as a day of celebrating the good done in the past and the light these people have shone into the world.

So, for us in the church this season is important. It is here after these two dates that  ‘All Souls day” sits, it is a catholic tradition to pray for and remember those people that have died, not just in the past year, but throughout our lives. People that have influenced us, loved us and whom we have cared about, it does not matter how long ago they passed away or how long you knew them, it is an intentional day of remembering them.

It is from this tradition that we have planned a day of prayer at Fairhaven, the church will be open to provide a space for people to light a candle and reflect on the lives of those they have lost. this is a time to smile at the memories and express sadness and grief at the personal loss. Throughout the day we will collect names to be read out later in our service of remembering, healing and wholeness at 3pm. This is a short reflective service that allows us to come together and celebrate the lives of those have been important to u
